You have taken the important first step in gaining a Trade Skill 4 Life and establishing a new career. You have elected to join that exclusive select group of people who want to achieve and get on in the world and are prepared to make the sacrifice and commitment to do so. The skills you have chosen to study are very highly sought after because of a skills shortage in this area. This is evident in the work available and the rising income potential.

The work you are about to undertake might seem complex and daunting at first. But rest assured you are not alone. Provided you put in the effort and follow the instructions of your tutors your rewards will be endless.

Your course has been developed by experienced Industry experts who have all been on the journey you are about to embark on and hold the same qualifications you are striving for. Remember your course is flexible and designed to fit in and around your existing work and family commitments. You set your timetable and control how and when you study.

Study Guide

This is the digital version of your study material so you may familiarise yourself with the study method. However the physical study pack will arrive shortly by post. The following steps will help you get started, however, if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your tutor team.

Within 5 days you will receive by email confirmation of your acceptance onto the training programme and also confirmation of your college username and password.
You will also receive contact details for your tutor team. If for any reason you do not receive any of the above within 7 days please call the freephone number.
Log onto Student Zone and register and introduce yourself to your tutor team. They will then give you further instructions on how to get started.
Remember it is important to create a study plan and timetable. You should try and aim to study a minimum of 7 hours per week.
At strategic points of your studies you will be asked to submit a series of tutor marked multiple choice assessments and revision questions. These are designed to test your knowledge so your tutors may monitor your progress but also prepare you for ‘real time’ exam scenerios. For this reason they are undertaken in simulated exam conditions. You should allow at least 24 hours between studying your lessons and answering these questions. This will ensure that you have understood the work covered in the lessons.
Remember your studies are supported by lectures delivered directly from City & Guilds which are recorded for your convenience so you may revisit them as often as you wish. This effectively offers you guaranteed learning at times that suit you.

Practical Training

We understand that it is not possible to learn a trade skill such as electrical or plumbing through books alone. For this reason you will attend practical centres at your convenience to gain the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to allow you to work competently and safely in the work place.

We will help you compile your portfolio of work, assess your competency, coach you and enter you for exams only when you are ready to pass.

Our job is to give you the ’hands on ’ knowledge and skills for the career you have chosen. We do not believe you can train someone unless you have experience of doing the job. That’s why we only employ highly experienced qualified professionals who have at least 10 years ’on the tools’ experience and hold the same qualifications in the trade you have chosen to learn.

Where are the training centres located?

There are state of the art training centres nationwide. Your tutors will endeavour to find the most suitable one for you.

What happens if I fail an exam?

Provided you have followed the instructions of your tutors you may retake exams free of charge.

How long will it take to qualify?

Your training programme is flexible and under your control. The course duration will depend on ability and time that you allocate to your studies.

What qualifications will I get?

All courses lead to Industry recognised qualification such as City & Guilds, BPEC, ACS and NVQ.
